Teen charged with having illegal knife at school
KINGSBURY -- A 16-year-old student at Southern Adirondack Vocational Center was arrested Wednesday on a charge he brought an illegal knife to school, police said.
The teen, whose name was not released, was charged with the misdemeanor of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after the illegal "gravity" knife was found in his possession at the Dix Avenue school, Washington County Sheriff Roger Leclaire said.
The blade on a gravity knife is extended solely through the force of gravity or centrifugal force.
The student, who is from Queensbury, did not threaten anyone with the knife or display it. School officials were alerted when someone learned he had it, Leclaire said.
He was released to a parent pending prosecution. Sheriff's Deputy Michael McWhorter made the arrest.
