Hips Don't Lie For Injured Lady In Wet Bar Contest

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK A New Jersey woman who fell off a wet bar and injured herself while dancing in a "Shake-It-Like-Shakira" contest is suing the Manhattan bar that sponsored the shake-off.

Megan Zacher, 22, of Delanco, N.J fell inside Calico Jack's Cantina on 42nd Street at Second Avenue on July 8, 2006. Her lawyer, Lawrence Simon, said the fall caused a torn ligament in her left knee and required surgery.

Simon said Zacher and two friends had been in Calico Jack's about an hour. Zacher had finished one drink and was working on a second, and was dancing on the bar, vying for the $250 "Shake-It-Like-Shakira" prize, when she fell.

Shakira, pop songstress from Colombia, South America, who also has Lebanese ancestry, is famous for her belly dance moves. Her latest hit is "Hips Don't Lie."

Zacher's lawsuit says the bar's operators should have known the contest atop a wet bar was "dangerous." The lawsuit asks unspecified damages from Calico Jack's.

Eh, she participated willingly. She might get medical bills.

Zacher's lawsuit says the bar's operators should have known the contest atop a wet bar was "dangerous."

And she should have understood the same thing. Most places require you to sign a complete waiver before going into these types of contests.

My judgement would be that the bar owner's share 1/2 the liability and pay half of her actual medical damages. That's it. She needs to hold some responsibility for her own actions.

Fuck that. It was her own choice, he most definitely should have made her sign some kind of form stating if something did happen that he wasnt responsible, but she got up there on her own and did her thing by choice, not his problem, although it might be now.

Well the bar does hold some liability for hosting the contest. The woman holds some liability for participating on her own in the contest.
