Mohonasen High School teacher investigated
School district and police looking into alleged inappropriate relationship with student
ROTTERDAM -- A Mohonasen High School teacher who is under investigation by police for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student has been placed on administrative leave from his job, officials said.
In a letter mailed to parents and posted Nov. 13 on the district's Website, the school administration said it began an internal investigation last week after information about the relationship was disclosed to school employees.
Information developed during the district's probe was given to town police and the state Department of Education.
Rotterdam Police Lt. Michael Brown confirmed the matter is being investigated, but he declined to provide further details.
In the letter, Superintendent Kathleen A. Springs and High School Principal Patrick McGrath wrote: ``We are working cooperatively with these agencies to complete a thorough investigation of all the allegations.''
Spring told the Times Union that the teacher, whose name is being withheld by the district, was placed on leave on Nov. 6. ``We've been advised that it's a personnel matter and that we shouldn't be talking about,'' she said. Calls to Board of Education members were not immediately returned.
