ROTTERDAM -- A couple faces felony charges in connection with a serious head injury sustained by their 6-month-old foster child, according to Rotterdam Police.
The infant is being treated for ``shaken baby syndrome'' at Albany Medical Center Wednesday, where the foster mother is employed in the neonatal intensive care unit.
The couple, Eric and Carmina Janis, of 1010 Argo Blvd., were arraigned on several charges and are being held in the Schenectady County Jail.
The husband is charged with one count of first-degree assault, a felony, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
The wife is charged with one count of first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony.
The husband, who is unemployed, is a stay-at-home dad who cares for the couple's three biological children and two other foster children who are siblings to the injured infant.
An investigation is ongoing. Officials with Schenectady County's child welfare services were not immediately available for comment on the case this morning.
