Two local men are under arrest in connection with a scheme to allegedly buy a child for sexual purposes.
Federal investigators say they were tipped off about two weeks ago that an Albany man was interested in buying a young girl. The other man is accused of trying to buy child pornography.
The two men were friends. Police say that's how this whole thing started.
Police say two weeks ago a confidential informant tipped them off that 42-year-old Threasa Pasquale of Albany was interested in purchasing a child to be his daughter and to use for sexual purposes. Members of the Cyber Predator Task Force in Albany acted on that information.
“We had a number of conversations on the Internet with this person as well as a number of phone conversations with him,” said Michael Kaste of the Cyber Predator Task Force.
Police say they set up a meeting with Pasquale at the Motel 6 on Watervliet Avenue Extension. According to officials, Pasquale thought he was there to buy an 8-year-old girl for $300. That's when police arrested him.
“Then he revealed he had a friend named John, who was interested in having sex with a child as well,” Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings said.
Officials also met up with 45-year-old John Moises of Hannacroix at a fast food restaurant on Central Avenue. In this case, Moises thought he was there to buy child pornography. He was also arrested.
While police say while the two men did know each other, they did not conspire together on this.
