Spring Hill, Florida - There isn't anything remarkable about the home on Troy Avenue with the faded purple trim and a child's swing set in the backyard. Neighbors say Jeremy Knight and Nicole Rodriquez moved in three weeks ago.
Steve Brennan describes their four young children as beautiful. Brennan says the family is “very friendly. Always playing, and the couple seemed very nice also.”
But he's having second thoughts about his neighbors now, after hearing what police say happened early Sunday morning.
Investigators say the couple dosed their children with excessive amounts of Benadryl and left them home alone. They turned up at the "Saints and Sinners" bar for a night of drinking.
“As a father of two," says Rob Starz, owner of the bar, "I would never leave my kids home alone."
Starz says the couple told a friend they had left their kids home alone. That friend called police.
Once they had the couple's address, deputies broke through the front door and a window to reach the children. They were unharmed. And the Saints and Sinners bar isn't exactly right around the corner from the couple's home: it's 5.3 miles away.
Steve Brennan says the thought of what could have happened in the house next door is enough to give him nightmares.
“As a parent myself, it always scares you," he says, "and it doesn't matter if it's next door or across the nation, you hear stuff like this constantly. And I just... I don't know. It leaves you scratching your head.”
