ALBANY, Ore. — An Albany father has been arrested on suspicion of using a stun gun on his 18-month-old son.

The boy's mother reported the abuse to Albany police.

Investigators say the 21-year-old mother brought her son to the Albany Police Department Saturday. She told police that her husband, 23-year-old Rian Whittman — had been using a stun-gun device on her son.

Police say they discovered Whitman had used the stun-gun many times on the toddler over about a three-week period.

The child's injuries were treated at Samaritan Albany General Hospital. He was then taken into protective custody by the Department of Human Services.

Albany Police arrested Whittman on charges including three counts of assault.

Captain Eric Carter says the device isn't a Taser weapon but an older model that's applied directly to the skin.

I would like to know the reason he did this.

Some people are so deranged. How does anyone get pleasure from hurting a child?

They never said that he got pleasure from doing it. Hopefully we will find an updated story in the future telling the reason behind doing it. Was it for pleasure, or punishment, or corrective behavior treatment.

Obviously it was something for him to have done it repeated times.

Or in his mind set the child was doing something wrong over and over again and he was trying to correct it. This guy has issues no matter the reason.

Exactly. Yeah maybe he used it once to control the kid when he was acting out and he couldn't control the kid or handle it. So then everytime the kid got out of line he used it. A bit excessive and majorly disturbing. His punishment should be to endure the same thing he did to the kid and to take his rights as a father away.

spanking doesn't seem like such a bad alternative compared to this.

The kid probably had it coming.
