Train Kills Man Lying Across Tracks In Metairie
METAIRIE, La. -- A New Orleans man died after being hit by a passenger train in Metairie.
The body of Renard Rhea, 41, was found Monday along the railroad tracks just west of the Causeway Boulevard overpass.
None of the cars on the Amtrak's Sunset Limited, derailed, and none of its 149 passengers was injured.
The engineer told investigators that Rhea was lying perpendicular to the track, his head against the rail. Deputies said the engineer could not stop the train in time to avoid hitting Rhea.
