Animal control officer accused of misusing badge
MALTA - An assistant Clifton Park Animal Control Officer is accused of flashing his badge to a Saratoga County Sheriff's Deputy and claiming to be a state trooper after getting pulled over for speeding Monday afternoon on Round Lake Road in Malta, the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
William C. Lehman, 55, of 14 Herlihy Road, Clifton Park, is now charged with first-degree criminal impersonation, a low-level felony, the Sheriff's Office said. He's also cited for speeding.
The Sheriff's Office confirmed Tuesday that Lehman had the animal-control badge legitimately.
Town Supervisor Phil Barrett said Tuesday that he was surprised to hear of the incident and he needs to address the matter. He said Lehman has been a good employee as one of two part-time animal control officers for some time.
