Layoffs Planned at St. Clare's Hospital
CBS 6 has learned that St. Clare's Hospital is going to layoff the equivalent of 50 full-time employees Thursday. Ceil Mack, a spokeswoman from the hospital, says only 20 individuals will ultimately lose their jobs since the other positions represent workers who have either retired or will retire and their positions will not be filled.
Mack says the move has nothing to do with the planned merger of St. Clare's with Ellis Hospital, but that St. Clare's has had to take care of uninsured and medicaid patients for years making finances there difficult.
