Injured child found with gunshot to the chest, police say

DELAVAN, Wis. - A shooting inside a home left six people dead, and a child was found in a nearby vehicle with a gunshot to the chest, the Delavan police chief said Sunday.
Police were responding to a report of shots fired Saturday night in this southern Wisconsin city, Chief Tim O'Neill said.
The child, a 2-year-old girl, was taken to a hospital in Rockford, Ill., on Saturday night, where she was in critical condition, hospital officials said.
Rockford Memorial hospital officials said the child was then transferred by helicopter to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Her condition there was not immediately available Sunday morning.
Delavan is about 40 miles southwest of Milwaukee.

Police responding to a report of shots fired found six people dead Saturday night inside a house in this southern Wisconsin city, Chief Tim O’Neill said.
A child who had been shot in the chest was found in a car outside the house, he said.
Delavan is 45 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
Six people were dead and one child was in critical condition in Delavan, Wisconsin, on Sunday after local police responded to a report that shots had been fired in the city, police said in a press release.
"At 10:36 p.m. June 9, 2007, call came in to Delavan's 911 Dispatch Center reporting sounds of shots fired 309 S. 2 Street in the City of Delavan," the statement said.
"Officers responded and found a child in a vehicle who was immediately turned over to EMS," it added.
