'Star Wars' Theme Tune to Sell as a Single

LONDON (Reuters) - The next "Star Wars" theme tune will be released as a single, the first time music from the long-running epic has been released in that format.

And it could force its way into the top 10 in music charts around the world -- a rare achievement for a choral and orchestral piece.

"Only 'Star Wars' could do it," Gennaro Castaldo, spokesman for the 200 HMV retail stores across Britain and Ireland, said.

"I'm not sure it will get to number one, but it should have a strong showing in the top 10."

Interest in the film, the heavy merchandising cache of "Star Wars" and some top 10 charts counting Internet downloads for the first time, will all boost sales, he said.

SonyBMG will release "Battle of the Heroes" on May 23.

It is composed by five-time Oscar winner John Williams and depicts the fateful struggle between Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker and his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Williams conducts and the London Symphony Orchestra performs, the same combination on the original score 28 years ago.

"Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith" is the final episode of the six-part series and stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson. It is released in cinemas worldwide on May 19.
