A teacher with the Denton Independent School District is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Lauren Cosgrove, 28, had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy while babysitting him during the summer, according to Jim Bryan with the Denton Police Department. According to Bryan, the boy is a former student of Cosgrove's, who teaches 7th Grade Language Arts at Strickland Middle School.
Cosgrove surrendered to the Denton police after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She is now free on $20,000 bond.
Investigators claim to have evidence of two encounters between Cosgrove and the victim on July 2 and July 3. They are checking to see if any other contact was made during the school year or at any other time.
Late Wednesday afternoon, the Denton ISD issued this statement:
"Officials with the Denton Independent School District are cooperating fully with the Denton Police Department and their investigation of Lauren Cosgrove, who was arrested Tuesday, July 10, on two counts of sexual assault to a child.
School officials have not been able to contact Mrs. Cosgrove today. However, the district policy states "… a contract employee may be suspended with pay or placed on administrative leave by the Superintendent during an investigation of alleged misconduct by the employee … "
She has been a language arts teacher at Strickland since 2003. She received her bachelors degree from Baylor University."
