Police: Man jailed after head-butting officer
FORT EDWARD -- A Fort Edward man was charged with felony attempted assault and jailed Sunday after he head-butted a police officer who was trying to arrest him for vandalizing a relative's property, police said.
John A. Martin, 42, of 2026 River Road, was charged with attempted second-degree assault, a felony, the misdemeanor of resisting arrest and non-criminal violation of disorderly conduct in the incident at 36 Ethan Allen St., according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Washington County Sheriff Roger Leclaire said Martin was vandalizing property that belong to his uncle, and was intoxicated when police were called shortly before 8 p.m.. When police responded, he allegedly head-butted Deputy David Buxton in the face, slightly injuring him, Leclaire said.
Buxton and Deputy John laTour arrested Martin with the assistance of pepper spray, police said.
Martin was arraigned in Fort Edward Town Court and sent to Washington County Jail for lack of $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bail bond.
