Saratoga Springs settles police lawsuit
SARATOGA SPRINGS -- The city has reached a $130,000 settlement with its police chief and retired assistant chief in a federal civil rights lawsuit involving former deputy public safety commissioner Erin Dreyer.
Chief Edward Moore and former Assistant Chief James Cornick will each receive $65,000 under the agreement approved by the City Council in a 3-2 vote on Tuesday.
The city will pay a total of $40,000 of the costs and its insurance policy will cover the rest, city attorney Michael Engler said.
Moore and Cornick alleged in separate suits in 2005 and 2006 that Dreyer and former public safety commissioner Thomas Curley violated their civil rights by engaging in a pattern of harassment to get them to leave their jobs.
