Traffic advisory: Hannah Montana concert

ALBANY - Parts of some streets are closing to traffic tonight as Hannah Montana mania hits the city.

Miley Cyrus, who portrays the popular Disney TV show character, performs a sold-out concert at Times Union Center at 7 p.m.

Beginning at 4 p.m., South Pearl Street between Beaver and Howard street will be closed to traffic.

At about 5 p.m., or when traffic volumes dictate, South Pearl Street between State and Beaver streets will become one-way southbound.

Traffic will form into two lanes. The left lane will be directed to Beaver Street eastbound, then to southbound Green Street where public parking will be available. The right lane will be directed to Beaver Street westbound to public parking.

Motorists who are not heading to the event can continue past the parking areas.

The following route will be followed at the end of the concert:

South Pearl Street between Beaver and State streets will become one-way northbound. Traffic will form into two lanes. Both lanes will be directed east onto State Street from South Pearl Street.

As the two lanes approach Broadway, the left lane will be directed north on Broadway to either Route 32 or to I-787. The right lane will be directed south onto Broadway to either I-787 north via Quay Street or south at Madison Avenue.

Albany police will assist at major intersections to aid in the traffic flow.

From 4 p.m. until completion of the outbound traffic plan, all CDTA buses that would use South Pearl Street northbound or southbound in the area of Times Union Center will be rerouted.

CDTA staff will notify patrons on the affected bus lines of the changes in the stops and routes.
