JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An 18-year-old Mandarin High School student punched a teacher Wednesday morning, ran out of the portable classroom and was seen swinging from the goal posts before police caught up with him, police said.

Police said Christopher Crosby walked into math class just before 9:30 a.m., but rather than sit down at a desk, he began to punch the walls and mess up the classroom. Officers said the violence began when his teacher, Brian Chadwid, tried to calm him down.

"He became more agitated and punched the teacher on the eye," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Claude Ayoub said.

Then, according to the police report, Crosby "ran from the portable to the practice field, swinging from goal posts." The school resource officer and the dean of boys reported finding Crosby, lying on his back and rambling to himself. Officers said as he was approached, he got up, stripped naked and began cursing at everyone around him until officers restrained him.

Crosby was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center for observation. Chadwid was treated at an area clinic.

Channel 4's Bryan Kelly learned the student has a history of seizures. He has been charged with aggravated battery on a school employee and criminal mischief.

"I hate that certain children would be bringing down the school's reputation," parent Deena Richmond said. "Hopefully it was just an isolated incident."
