UAlbany student held in campus stabbings
ALBANY -- A 19-year-old University of Albany student was arrested early today after a stabbing in a taxi cab on campus left two students hurt, university police said.
Vito C. Chiaramonte of Lynbrook on Long Island arraigned in City Court on felony charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arrested by university police about 40 minutes after the 2 a.m. attack near Colonial Quad.
After an argument broke out in the cab, one student was stabbed in the abdomen, and the other student was cut on the hands during a struggle, police said. After the attacker dropped the knife and fled, the cab driver took both students to St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
One of the students is recovering after surgery at Albany Medical Center. The second was released after treatment at St. Peter's. Police did not release their identities.
Chiaramonte remained in the Albany County jail. Bail was set at $35,000 bail.
