Childhood Prank Taken To Dangerous Level

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) ― It's an age-old childhood prank that's has taken a very dangerous turn. It's called Doorbell Ditch where kids ring the doorbell and then usually just run away. But Roseville police say some kids have added a potentially deadly twist to the prank...a fake gun.

When Roseville resident Brian Stark opened his door Sunday night, he found a 13-year-old boy pointing a gun in his face.

"We were eating dinner last night and the doorbell rang. I opened up the door and someone started shooting at me," Stark told CBS13, "I jumped back a little bit and could tell it wasn't real because I could see the plastic BBs bouncing off the walls."

Stark said he was shocked. But his concern is that the prank could have ended differently.

"I could have been carrying a gun. Not knowing that they were using a toy gun, I could have shot them." Stark explained.

Roseville police said fake guns like the Air Soft gun used in the prank look so real, even they can't tell the difference.

"If it was found on a traffic stop or if it was coming out of their pocket, it would probably result in a shooting." Roseville Police Lt. Michael Doane told CBS13.

When CBS13's Elyce Kirchner quickly displayed both a real and fake gun, it was virtually impossible to tell which one was real.

"No officer wants to live through a shooting let alone have the facts come out that the gun that was pointed at them was a play gun and the juvenile was just fooling around." said Lt. Doane.

Because the guns can be bought at any sporting goods store for under $50, police say the risk is huge and inevitable.

"It's just a matter of time before one of these incidences turn deadly," warned Doane.

The 13-year-old in this case is being charged with battery.

I love my airsoft gun.

And yes, they are modeled to be 1:1 perfect replicas, only they don't have the manufactures names on them.

Right on down to the serial number plate.

This 13 year old is a complete idiot and a moron.

And when one of these kids get shot and killed it will be their own fault.

I was going to take a picture of it, but I seemed to have misplaced my camera.

That's why you need a maid.

LOL! Yes, exactly!

Although, I'm starting to think I left it at work.

I'll be lucky to get it back, if that's the case.

Damn it, 500 smackers to the wind, just like that.

Why did you bring it to work?

Taking pictures, of course :P

I take pictures of stuff. I just do. A hobby, I suppose.

I just wish I had a better camera, bigger objective lens.

Oh well. When I get rid of this house, pay off some bills, etc. then it'll be time for luxuries like that. Until then, my Cannon works just fine.

Never mind, I found it.

It was stuck in an out of the way, "safe" location :)

Bad pictures, I know. I just snapped them, didn't care as long as they were visible :)

That orange tip is threaded for a silencer (fake) (which I have.)

Note: it's a tactical model :) has the rail mount, threaded barrel, etc.

That orange would be SO easy to get rid of.

You mean my deck of cards?

I buy them in bulk.
I like to shuffle, it helps me to think.
Just flipping them, shuffling, snapping, etc.

No, I can't really do any tricks, I just like the feel of them while shuffling. Helps me to think.

It's also a good way to fidget while waiting for something, like something to download or whatever.

I'm still trying to figure out why the hell my hands look so much fatter in the pictures than in real life :rotflmao:
