no offense...... but as i spoke about earlier... ryan is passing the tourch. he included alot of obituaries of people i wouldnt consider celebrities. i will not dispute their celebrity status though.
here are the guidlines for 2009: If a celebrity death makes a headline I will post it. When you make your new list take that into consideration. Unless you plan to keep up on your own list, which is highly encouraged. If someone on your list dies and I don't notice it and you don't notice it by the end of the year, you will not receive credit.
No fetus will be allowed onto your list, nor will a stillborn baby. If a baby or a fetus is chosen, it must be declared to be delivered alive and then pass away after the actual birth. If for any reason this even becomes circumstantial my ruling will be final.
For existing members no list will be accepted past Jan 1, 2009. If you had a list for 2008, your old list will be forwarded into the new year. Any new members that arrive during 2009 will have a 2 week period to compose a list.
Points will be scored as 100 minus the age of the deceased. For example, if a 60 year old celebrity on your lists dies, you will be awarded 40 points. (If the person is over 100 years old, you will actually lose points, so be careful.)
If you murder any celebrity on your list, you will be disqualified. All winners will receive a free s0lidgr0und membership, or a prize to be determined at a future time.
1st place- lifetime
2nd place-3 years
3rd place- 1 year

this might give you some ideas http://www.flymetothetomb.com/
because of the holidays and such and i know people with families have been rather busy im going to give a two day grace period. i really would like to encourage everyone though who would like to participate to please compose a list as soon as possible.
just for the record though, for those without a list and are going to take advantage of the grace period, if a celebrity gets into a car accident tonight and ends up in icu they will not be permitted to be put on a list. the grace period is a nice gesture and will not to be taken advantage of.
the final cut off time for all existing members will jan 2 12:00 pm. werd!
all deaths will only count from jan 1st at 12:01 am till dec 31st midnight.

'Golden Girl' Bea Arthur dead at 86
http://photos.upi.com/story/t/1c5bf2e0268c6d93735277456724b0ef/Golden-Girl-Bea-Arthur-dead-at-86.jpg
LOS ANGELES, April 25 (UPI) -- Bea Arthur, who went from supporting roles on Broadway to stardom in two groundbreaking TV sitcoms died Saturday in Los Angeles, a family spokesman said.
Arthur was 86, spokesman, Dan Watt, told The New York Times. He said she had cancer.
Born Bernice Frankel, Arthur dreamed as a girl in Cambridge, Md, of going on the stage. She changed her name to Beatrice because she thought it would look impressive on a theater marquee, the Times said.
Her Broadway musical roles included Lucy Brown in Kurt Weill's "Three-Penny Opera," Yente the Matchmaker in "Fiddler on the Roof" and Vera Charles in "Mame" -- a role that brought her a Tony Award.
In 1970, when she was visiting her then-husband, director Gene Saks, in Los Angeles, producer Norman Lear convinced her to appear in his hit TV show "All in the Family."
Arthur's character, Maude Findlay, soon got a spinoff show. In seven years, the show explored hot-button issues like abortion and women's rights -- "everything but hemorrhoids," Arthur said in a 2001 interview.
Arthur went on to "The Golden Girls," where she played Dorothy Zbornak, one of four older women sharing a house.
She was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards -- winning in 1988 for "The Golden Girls" and in 1977 for "Maude."

i have lost steam on the celebrity death thing to be honest.
its more work then i thought it would be. and after 6 months or so i have lost interest in it. i will finish it this year but i dont want it next year. a year is a long time to try to keep up on something. lol. i would suggest to have different moderators monitor like blocks of the time period. say if you have 3 moderators, each one gets like a 4 month block. i think it would help the mods give it more attention then i currently am. ryan was pretty willing to pass it off to me after last year too so i might assume he understands where im coming from on this.

sws4420
09-17-2009, 01:33 AM
Our points system isn't bad and it's actually pretty typical.
Here (http://deathpoolers.com/rules_2007.html)is the generally accepted set of rules, as far as I know. The only ways we differ from them is the reserve list and the 100+ rule.
MedicCook
09-17-2009, 01:34 AM
Here is the point structure I found from another site. They go with 10 people and 2 alternates, with the alternates moving into an open spot if death occurs. If the alternate dies while still an alternate no points are given.
SCORING
• When your celebrity dies you receive the point value for their death plus any bonus points.
• 5 points will be awarded for each celebrity death on your list.
.BONUS POINTS
• This is where it gets interesting. If you go for someone unexpected, you can rack up some valuable points.
o +5 points if your celebrity is under 55.
o +6 points if your celebrity is under 45.
o +7 points if your celebrity is under 35.
o +8 Points if your celebrity is under 25.
o The bonus’ are cumulative, if your celebrity is under 25 you also get the under 35, 45 & 55 bonus’.
o +10 points if your celebrity dies in a plane crash. (Skynrd Bonus)
o +10 points if your celebrity is murdered. (Dimebag Bonus)
o +15 Points if your celebrity is murdered by a spouse (Phil Hartman Bonus)
o +2 Points if your celebrity commits suicide. (Cobain Bonus)
o +5 Points if your celebrity overdoses on drugs (Belushi Bonus)
o + 15 Points if your celebrity is the first death of the year. (First to Go bonus)
o +10 Points if your Celebrity is the last death of the year (Hold Out Bonus)
o +5 points if your celebrity dies on January 1st or December 31st. (Over & Under Achiever bonus)
o +5 Points if your celebrity is the youngest to die (Heather O’Rourke Bonus)
o +5 points if your celebrity is the oldest to die (George Burns Bonus)
o +15 points if your celebrity is not on any one else’s list. (Solo Bonus)
o +25 point bonus if all 10 celebrities from your original roster die. (it’ll never happen bonus)
o +10 point bonus if all 10 celebrities and your alternates die. (Fat Chance Bonus)
o +5 Points bonus if celebrity dies in a bizarre way. Ex. Autoerotic Asphyxiation, Smoking in a car full of fire works. (Anything that might make them eligible for a Darwin Award) (Hutchence Bonus)
o +10 points Bonus if your celebrity is actually nominated for a Darwin award.
o +10 Point Bonus If your celebrity dies due to a wild animal attack. (Erwin Bonus)
o +10 Point Bonus if your celebrity dies from choking on food. (Momma Kas Bonus)

I do like those, though.
We've become relatively well-known for our celebrity death coverage on Google. Maybe we could use some of those bonus names and possibly come up with some of our own for next year.
I think a payout system would be cool, too.

09-17-2009, 01:51 AM
For the points awarded for deaths. Currently MJ got 50 points, with a different point system MJ would be more like 20 points (5 for the death, 5 for under 55 y/o, 5 for being murdered).
sws4420
09-17-2009, 01:56 AM
Aren't those just situational bonus points on top of the 50 for his death alone?
MedicCook
09-17-2009, 02:11 AM
No, this particular scoring system would only gives 5 points for a death. Then whatever bonus points fit.
I am sure there are a bunch of other point systems out there. We have a couple months to figure out what to do for 2010.
trojanmiro
09-17-2009, 08:18 AM
the only problem i forsee with that system is the controversial deaths, such as michael jackson. how long it takes before they label it a suicide, accident, or a homicide. and what happens if they rule it a homicide but the doc is acquited, is it back to being an accident?
just some food for thought.
