WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."

That wasn't Obama's only jab at Republicans today.

In an exchange with Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) about the proposal, the president shot back: "I won," according to aides briefed on the meeting.

"I will trump you on that."

Not that Obama was gloating. He was just explaining that he aims to get his way on stimulus package and all other legislation, sources said, noting his unrivaled one-party control of both congressional chambers.

"We are experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis that has to be dealt with and dealt with rapidly," Obama said during the meeting.

Republicans say the $825 billion price tag is too big a burden for a nation crippled by debt and that it doesn't do enough to stimulate the economy by cutting taxes.

"You know, I'm concerned about the size of the package. And I'm concerned about some of the spending that's in there, [about] ... how you can spend hundreds of millions on contraceptives," House GOP Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) later said.

"How does that stimulate the economy?"

But White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs countered: "There was a lot of agreement in that room about the notion that we're facing an economic crisis unlike we've seen in quite some time ... that we must act quickly to stimulate the economy, create jobs, put money back in people's pockets."

Gibbs disagreed with those who called the meeting window dressing.

"The president is certainly going to listen to any ideas," he said.

"He will also go to Capitol Hill the beginning of next week to talk to Republican caucuses and solicit their input and their ideas."

2 points.

1. Limbaugh's statement was very un-american. We all want the president to succeed whether we agree or not.

2. Obama could pass this stimulus package without the republican help but he's reaching out and attempting to make some sort of bridge going forward.

4 full days into the presidency and i'm excited about the next 96 days. Curious to see what that Fox news thing will reveal and if it will bite them in the ass.

What did Limbaugh say that was un-American?

I can't see the YouTube video, but in context, what he said isn't really all that bad, assuming it's the same clip you're talking about.
His comments followed a blunt attack on him by Mr Limbaugh, who declared on air that he hoped Mr Obama would fail as president because otherwise it will usher in socialism.I disagree with a lot of what Obama ran on during his campaign and a lot of his programs do reek of socialism.

it just sounds strange. You have at least 1090 more days to get used to it, assuming all goes well with him during his term.

there are doubts gillibrand will even win her election in 2 years. no one who has ever had an A plus rating from the nra has been elected a senator of ny.

How many years was Obama in the Senate for?

atleast 4, he gave a speech for kerry at the democratic national convention. thats basically what threw him in the public spotlight.

How many years was Obama in the Senate for?He was sworn into the Senate on January 4, 2005 and he announced his bid for the Presidency on February 10, 2007. So he barely had two working years in the Senate.

there are doubts gillibrand will even win her election in 2 years. no one who has ever had an A plus rating from the nra has been elected a senator of ny.True, but as we've seen in the last few election cycles it's not the platform that you're running on, but who you're running against.

I am not saying that she would even be a candidate in 2016 but you never know.

The rumors I hear are that there'll be an election in 2012, too.

True but how often do you see the incumbent President after the first term have to deal with a primary opponet to run for re-election?

Point taken, but that's not to say it wouldn't or couldn't happen.

True but to keep realistic when talking about Democratic candidates looking at 2016 makes more sense.

It does seem that Obama is starting off with a let's work together attitude. I am sure that will change as the months go by.

It does seem that Obama is starting off with a let's work together attitude. I am sure that will change as the months go by.Yeah, it'll change when he pushes through his stupid agenda, the Republicans will resist, be called racists, and then Dems will blame the GOP for delays in moving the country closer to a socialist state, which everyone seems to want for some stupid reason. As far as his agenda, I hope he falls right on his face and fails miserably because I don't want my country to be the way he wants it to be.

Franklin Pierce, Millard Fillmore, Andrew Johnson, Chester A. Arthur, and Calvin Coolidge; but only one of which was actually elected President (Pierce). The rest were VPs who were promoted due to assassinations or death in office.

i believe it was franklin pierce he referred to. it was actually quite an interesting skit. he said the whole part that he was so unpopular that he failed to get his parties nomination. he also mentioned that w's mother, barbara bush's maiden name is pierce. making both of them descendents of frankling pierce. my brother is extremely liberal and always rants about those conspiracy theories of the skulls and elite secret societies and shit. that situation made me think of that.

Marketing Mania Confronts Obamas Before First Weekend in White House

ABC News: Sasha and Malia Dolls Irk First Lady (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/President44/story?id=6716085&page=1)

Washington has quieted down. The president is hard at work (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/LawPolitics/story?id=6707095&page=1). The Obama girls are back in school. The Jonas Brothers (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Inauguration/story?id=6698562&page=1) have left the White House.

First daughters Sasha and Malia Obama get swept up in marketing mania.

But as the first family settles into its first weekend in their new home, an interruption in Sasha and Malia's privacy has already given them a taste of the new normal (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Inauguration/story?id=6690058&page=1).
Watch "Nightline" for the full report.
This week Michelle Obama's spokeswoman, Katie McCormick Lelyveld, explained how the first lady feels about new dolls on the market that share her daughters' names (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/01/dollgate.html).
"We believe it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes," Lelyveld said in a statement.
