A predatory teacher who took the virginity of an infatuated student and had sex with her in a school closet has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Married maths teacher Andrew Beaumont, 31, had sex with the student in a school toilet and at her house.
Victorian County Court judge Felicity Hampel said Beaumont had taught the girl dishonesty and deceit by encouraging the relationship.
"It was predatory, it was manipulative, it was calculated, it was selfish," she said on Wednesday.
"You embarked upon a deceitful course for nothing more than your own sexual gratification," she said.
In her victim impact statement the girl described her distress when she learnt the teacher did not love her: "Finding out the man I loved and lost my virginity to didn't love me sickened me".
The three-month relationship began last June year when Beaumont taught the girl maths classes at lunchtime, the court was told.
He set up a MySpace page for the girl under a different name so they could communicate in secret and the pair began hugging and kissing at school.
As the relationship developed the pair had sex at school and at the student's house.
Their final sexual encounter was in a toilet cubicle in a cleaning cupboard.
"If, as you told police you wanted to cool the relationship, that was hardly the way to do it," Judge Hampel said.
She said Beaumont only stopped the relationship because he had been found out.
"(The girl) was your pupil and you were in a position of trust," she said.
"It is clear you knew (the girl) was infatuated with you."
"You did not love her and you had no intention of leaving your wife for her."
The court heard Beaumont had recently migrated from England and had brought a house with his wife and planned to have a family.
Now he had lost his job and everything he had worked for, Judge Hampel said.
Beaumont, of Wyndham Vale, pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual penetration of a child, two counts of committing an indecent act on a child under 16 and one count of child pornography after semi-naked images of his victim were found at his home.
Judge Hampel ordered Beaumont serve a minimum of three years jail before being eligible for parole.
Beaumont's wife wailed as the sentence was delivered.
