Jury awards ex-Stripper $100K for DUI wreck
Ala. jury awards ex-stripper $100,000 after wrecking after on-the-job drinking

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A Jefferson County jury has awarded a former stripper $100,000 in a lawsuit in which she claimed the club that employed her failed to stop her from driving home after her on-the-job drinking. Patsy Hamaker of Bessemer was injured in a wreck after leaving work at The Furnace on Oct. 17, 2007. She said she can no longer dance because of her injuries.

Hamaker said the club disregarded its own safety rules when it let her drive home that night. Attorneys for the club argued that employees tried to keep Hamaker from driving away.
The Birmingham News reported that the jury award made Tuesday is for compensatory damages. No punitive damages were awarded.

Stupid ass jury. It wasn't her fault at all?

Well, yes; but I'm thinking she was blacked out.

You're unfamiliar with an alcoholic's blackout?
Or you just don't understand my comment?

I am very familiar with the blackout. I went to college and, during that time in my life, alcohol was my beverage of choice. I was wondering how you came up with that theory when it wasn't stated in the article. All it says is DUI.

From an ex-girlfriend telling me about the times (note the plural...) she woke up in the morning, wondering how she got home and looking out the window in a panic to see if the car was in the driveway.

Yes, they should have stopped her. I have a feeling that it's so low (only 100 thou :giggles:) because the jury did acknowledge that it was *also* her fault, but not completely.
It'd be fun to watch this trial, or at least read the transcripts. Wonder how it went down.

Maybe they didn't see her leave. Maybe she was getting drinks from someone other than the bartender. She's an adult and should know her limits. Are bars suppose to collect all keys at the door and give a breath test to each person leaving before they get the right to have their keys given back? I have a hard time blamming the bar for some else's stupidity.

I dunno. It's a strip club. It's probably expected that there's going to be drinking involved.

It does seem kind of crazy. There's probably more to the story than that little tiny article says.
Like I said, I'd love to read the transcripts. I wonder if any of those are available. Probably not.

If she is unable to dance and that was her career, $100,000 is not going to last long. She'll likely be on welfare soon.

Woohoo...we get to pay for a pole dancer to sit on her ass and do nothing. That excites me.

If she's the kind of female I'm thinking she is, then she'll have no money problem :giggles:

She might not be able to dance, but I'm sure she could lay on her back and (insert trick here) to make a butt load of money.

I was thinking more along the lines of -- she got a jury to award her a row boat of money, I'm sure she can scam the system well enough to get by.
I've known people that have done it.

If you are an adult and you go out drinking it is not the fault of the bar if you do something stupid. You are an adult and you are responsible for your actions. I can not think of the last time I had alcohol when I knew I would be driving.
