SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Two city school district students have been charged with bringing a BB gun on school grounds, police said.
Matthew G. Fluri, 19, and Haydar Ali, 18, both of Saratoga Springs, were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds, a violation, after a city police officer found a BB gun in their car as they arrived at the high school Wednesday, police said. A third student, an unidentified female, was not charged, school officials and police said.
A Geyser Crest resident called police around 2 p.m. Wednesday to report seeing a young man placing a rifle in the trunk of his car before driving off, police Sgt. Shane Crooks said. Police notified Officer John Kelly, who secured entrances to the high school with the help of school security guards. The students were arrested at the school's West Avenue entrance, police said. All three were suspended from school pending a superintendent's hearing.
