Boy expelled, Mother cited by police
June 9, 2005 — A Chicago mother let her 11-year-old son drive the family minivan to school while she and her daughter rode as passengers. The van jumped a curb and plowed into a school zone sign.
Now the boy's mother, Erin Sarandah, has been cited for property damage and allowing her son to drive. She also has to find a new school for her son.
Officials at the St. John Fisher Catholic grade school have decided to expel the boy after the Monday morning accident.
A Chicago Police spokeswoman says the boy's name is not being released due to his age. He has been cited for negligent driving and for driving without a license.
