Troy man pleads guilty to abducting teen
Met West Virginia girl on Internet
WAYNE, W.Va., Feb. 22
By The Associated Press
A 27-year-old Troy man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping a West Virginia teenager he met through the Internet.
Michael Christopher Shackett was accused of taking Shaunita Renee Neace, who was 14 at the time, from her home a year ago. West Virginia State Police issued a nationwide alert after the girl was reported missing.
Police caught up with the two the same day at Shackett's Troy apartment. Neace was returned to her family unharmed.
Shackett pleaded guilty earlier this month to kidnapping or concealing a child, and third-degree sexual assault.
Shackett's mother, Barbara Shackett of Troy, had said the two talked over the Internet for about a month and that Neace lied about her age.
