ALBANY -- Engineers remain on the scene at the Dunn Memorial Bridge, closed Wednesday night after a section of ramp dropped about two feet.

The closure snarled rush-hour traffic for miles around the ramp, which is a main route for thousands of state employees who work at the Capitol and the adjacent Empire State Plaza.

The eight-lane bridge opened Dec. 1, 1970, replacing a four-lane bridge that had been built in 1933.

Officials have announced the following detours for commuters departing Albany:

Rensselaer-bound motorists should take the Patroon Island Bridge to Exits 7,8 or 9.

Saratoga and Schenectady-bound motorists should take I-787 South to the Thurway interchange at Exit 23. Travel west and take Exit 24 to the Northway.

Rensselaer and Washington-County bound motorists should take I-787 south and take the South Pearl Street/Port of Albany Exit.

Roadways that remain closed include:

Exits 3 and 4 of I-787 northbound.

Dunn Memorial Bridge westbound to and eastbound from the Empire State Plaza.

The Rensselaer exit off of I-787 southbound.

The South Mall Expressway from the Empire State Plaza to I-787 northbound and Rensselaer.

The Pearl Street ramp to the Dunn Memorial Bridge.

Quay Street from Broadway to the Broadway-Quay connector.

I listen to WGY every minute I'm in my car. They said nothing about my exit being backed up.
