Christina Merrill said, "I was told over and over again that something bad would have to happen to him before something good. And something bad happened yesterday."

Merrill said she and her family tried time and time again to get help for her uncle, Robert DePerna of Albany. Merrill said her 67-year-old uncle was epileptic and was diagnosed with dementia a short time ago.

DePerna was never married and worked at a number of restaurants in Albany through the years. Lately, he could be seen walking to some of his favorite places like Johnny's Hot Dog Shop on Central Avenue.

Merrill said, "He loved to walk. That was the only thing that kept him going. It wasn't unusual. He always came back."

While taking one of his walks on Monday, DePerna ended up at the Albany Rescue Mission. Afterwards, Merrill said she told the mission he could go back to his home on Park Avenue where he was staying with a family friend. Hours later, police said he was hit by an off-duty state trooper while walking on I-787.

Merrill said, "Robert called at 6:30. I said, Marcus is at home waiting for you. The mission called me back and said they were dropping him off. That was the last I heard of him."

Although Merrill isn't pointing any fingers, she said she wishes the system didn't fail the uncle she loved so much.

She said, "I'm angry at a lot of people. I feel if they didn't turn him away, maybe he'd be here. If they'd helped me get him into an institution, maybe he'd still be here. Yes, I'm angry."

Police said they do not expect any charges to be filed. Services will be held on Thursday and Friday at the Magin and Keegan Funeral Home on Madison Avenue.

Do you still with most of his or her newsletter so im whacking off till he or she decide to send it?
When was this exactly? What?Try to determine if this is a person or a computer responding.
When was this exactly? When was this exactly? Are we still talking about Merrill said she and her family tried time and time again to get help for her uncle Robert DePerna of Albany?
Do you have any idea what I am talking about?
I thought it was too.It seemed like unusual.I get it. tho Im unsure he or she ever
came back.Good point. When was this exactly? When was this exactly?"You have a beautiful voice"? Merrill said Robert called at 630?
What did you mean by Marcus is at home waiting for you? I think Marcus is a lot of things.
Who told you that?I thought it was too.Oh. Who is pointing any fingers she said she wishes the system did not fail the uncle she loved so much?
Angry at what? What is that feeling like? Let's wait and see what they do.That is a hypothetical question.Next question? Angry at what? Are you a student?
Does "it" still refer to Police said they do not expect any charges to be filed?

How do You "try" to get help for a man diagnosed with Dementia... Either you get it or you dont... Apparently the family dropped the ball on this one.

He always came back."Why let someone with a disease that makes them forget and not remember and regress, walk around the streets of albany alone?

While taking one of his walks on Monday, DePerna ended up at the Albany Rescue Mission. Afterwards, Merrill said she told the mission he could go back to his home on Park Avenue where he was staying with a family friend. Although Merrill isn't pointing any fingers, she said she wishes the system didn't fail the uncle she loved so much. How did the system fail? If he had no funds, they would have placed him in a nursing home where he wouldnt have hurt himself and he still could have had his walks...

She said, "I'm angry at a lot of people. I feel if they didn't turn him away, maybe he'd be here. If they'd helped me get him into an institution, maybe he'd still be here. Yes, I'm angry."Who is they?

So yea, This story irritates me to death. I cannot tell you the number of families who will point fingers and talk shit when something bad happens... But Honestly dont give a fuck otherwise. Maybe its not the case here... But it doesnt look any different than what Ive seen over the past 7 years of being a nurse in long term geriatric care. UGH
