ASHIYA, Hyogo -- An elementary school here has suspended lunch services for students after needles and a paper clip were found in meals, it was learned on Friday.
Officials from the Ashiya Municipal Board of Education said that needles were found in three rolls served during lunchtime to a fifth-grade class at Ashiya Municipal Shiomi Elementary School on Wednesday.
One student bit into a needle while eating a roll, but was not injured, officials said.
On Thursday, another student from the same class found a paper clip in a plate of fried rice served during lunchtime.
The school asked students to bring their own lunches on Thursday.
Officials from the school organized a meeting of parents and explained what happened on Thursday night. The school filed a report with the Ashiya Police Station on Thursday. (Mainichi)
