‘Patients aren’t bored to death,’ official says at St. Mary's in Ireland
DUBLIN, Ireland - A nursing home in Ireland has hit on a cheering way to keep up the spirits of its elderly patients -- by providing its own pub.
St Mary’s Hospital in County Monaghan, near the Irish border with Northern Ireland, believes ready access to a good pint may help its patients -- average age 85 -- actually live longer.
“We would say the whole social aspect of life does extend the years -- it means the patients aren’t bored to death,” Rose Mooney, assistant director of nursing told Reuters.
The pub, which opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. and charges normal bar prices, had also led to an increase in the number of visitors, she said.
Having its own bar made the hospital, which has around 140 patients, unique in Ireland, she added.

yeah. mixing drugs and beer is a wonderful idea.
That's how I'd like to live out my final years ... especially if I'm stuck in a home anyways. Might make those other 85 yr olds better looking.
I think that's a great idea, as long as they keep their drinking to a minimum and don't go overboard w/it...what could it hurt?

Amy used to get her old folks drunk every other Friday when she was at the old folks' home. I loved it. They loved it.

I used to work at Teresian House. I loved it, I miss it. Anyways, 6th floor-A Wing was one of my favorite floors...most of the residents were self sufficient. There was this one resident who'd have to have her Genesee in her own personal fridge...she was a very sweet woman. I wonder how she is.

I'll die on the race track LOL long before I end up in a nurseing home..then again if I do end up in a nurseing home I hope they have hot nurses with those super short skirts and no panties and lots of alcohol...or at least have a race track near by

Hey... this is off topic, but what are some cool gifts to give residents of nursing homes. We are thinking of taking a few gifts and sing christmas carols at local nursing home (living center) here in Delmar. It was my son, Josh's idea. I myself thru high school volunteered at local nursing home. I so much enjoy the stories and talents they shared with me.

Most of the old folks love mixed drinks, high balls things like that. I had to get doctors orders for every resident there not in charge of their medications. They were allowed 2-3 drinks per concierge club. It was by far their favorite thing and they always looked forward to it.
