Confesses to strangling woman with extension cord
A 37-year-old Greene County man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the death of his girlfriend's mother.In court Thursday, Daniel Callahan said that he got into an argument with 66-year-old Martha Rooney on July ninth at her home in Cairo.
He admitted strangling her with an extension cord. Callahan also described a history of mental illness and said he had been off medication since getting out of jail on a forgery charge.
He said he went to the victim's home after getting calls of problems from his girlfriend, 40-year-old Mary Quinn. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a 10-year prison sentence in exchange for her cooperation in the case.
As part of a plea deal, Callahan faces 25 years in prison.
