HOUSTON -- A Fort Bend County woman who deputies said confessed to setting her child's body on fire before burying him in a field has been charged, authorities told KPRC Local 2 on Tuesday.
Chelcey Pollock, 20, has been charged with injury to a child, child endangerment and abuse of a corpse.
Investigators told KPRC Local 2 that the mother said the baby was born alive but claims the newborn died shortly after being born in January.
The 20-year-old woman, who said she hid her pregnancy from family and friends, originally told investigators the baby choked on its umbilical cord and died during birth on Jan. 26.
Authorities with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department said the woman's actions were exposed on Valentine's Day when a neighbor's dog dug up the baby's decomposing body from a shallow grave where the mother buried the baby off Highway 59 on Reeh Road near Kunz Road in Needville.
An official cause as to how the baby died has not been released.
