Pilot says downtown Glens Falls a good place to watch for balloons tonight

GLENS FALLS -- The downtown Glens Falls business district should be an ideal place to watch hot air balloons fly over this evening, said Harry Collison, pilot of the Alexis Angel balloon.

Wind patterns are expected to carry balloons from Crandall Park in a southwest direction, which would facilitate landing in the area around Warren Street in Glens Falls or on the south side of the Hudson River in South Glens Falls, he said in an interview Thursday morning.

Collison, from near Atlantic City, NJ, joked he hopes he doesn't have to land in the construction zone on Glen Street.

One year, he said, he landed his balloon at the Jointa Galusha quarry behind Warren Street.

Balloons are scheduled to launch from Crandall Park at 5 p.m., but Collison said it may be a little later than that before winds are calm enough for balloons to fly.

"The wind sounds to be a little high at that time, but it's going to calm down," he said..
